Bill Hain got us fifty 8-12 inch diameter 4 foot long chestnut (white) oak log for the shiitake inoculation event March 25th. Bring your drill and a 5/16" drill bit if you have one. We have extra drill bits if you don't. We look forward to seeing you!

Wish I Could Have Been At Cultivation

All--I wish I could have been at the cultivation party----I had to take Biology Club students on their field trip to Erie to the Zoo--Maritime Museum--and Tom Ridge Environmental Center.  I was a glorified driver all weekend---but the students had fun and learned alot about the Great Lakes.

All my best--and I hope I can attend a cultivation party in the future!!

General Instructions

Members can go home with a log and some oyster spawn. Non-members can go home with a log or spawn for $10. Membership is $20 a year.

We would like to have a general head count so we can be prepared. Hopefully the weather will be as nice as it is this weekend. Here are the things you need to do to prepare for the meeting.

1. Email [email protected] with the number of people who are coming and anything you plan to bring.

2. Bring gardening gloves if you have some. The logs are heavy and big. You would want to be wearing gloves when handling them.

3. Please bring your own drill and a 5/16" drill bit. If you don't have a drill or the right bit, no problem. You can borrow one from someone else. We have extra bits of that size available too.

4. Whether or not you want to bring a sheet of plastic or paper for bringing the log home in your car is up to you. The paper would need to be approximately 2x5 feet.

5. If you'd like to bring a water bottle or finger food, that would be great!

6. If you'd like to sit, you may need to bring a stadium chair. We probably won't have enough chairs.

Note that we take our shoes off inside the house usually. I will have a path covered up from the door to the bathroom so you can wear your shoes inside for going to the bathroom. But if you plan to sit inside, please be prepared to remove your shoes.

Paul, I don't know how many people are coming yet, but I think it would be great if you could bring them. At the least, you can inoculate most of them for your self!

Ed, I've just sent our address to the listserv.
